**PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS A VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY AND IS NOT A PART OF THE COMMUNITY AMBASSADOR PROGRAM.**
**Harbor of Hope has reassessed their volunteer needs and is now re-seeking volunteers for this distribution.**
Since September 30, 2021, Southwest Michigan Community Action Agency (SMCAA) has been providing bottled water to the residents of the City of Benton Harbor following reports of elevated levels of lead in the city-supplied water. The State of Michigan is providing free bottled water as City residents are being encouraged to use bottled water for cooking, drinking, brushing teeth, rinsing foods, and mixing powdered infant formula.
It is SMCAA’s belief that clean water is vital to the health of communities and that everyone has the right to safe, clean water, and we are thankful for wonderful community partners who believe the same! Harbor of Hope Seventh-Day Adventist Church has stepped up to be a distribution host. To assist those City residents in need of water, Harbor of Hope needs the help from volunteers just like you. So first and foremost, THANK YOU for your willingness to share your time and energy.
The distribution you are registering for will be at the Benton Harbor High School: 870 Colfax Avenue, Benton Harbor, MI 49022.
Your scheduled shift is on Saturday, January 8, 2022 from 3:45pm to 6:00pm.
When you arrive, there will most likely already be a line of cars awaiting distribution. Please pass-by these clients’ vehicles, turn into the high school parking lot, and a team member will direct you to where to park. Do not get in line behind the clients’ vehicles.
Once parked, please ask for the Site Coordinator, Jharony Gibbs. Miss Gibbs will assist you in signing in and receiving further instructions.
Important Notes:
- This distribution event is outdoors, rain or shine. Please dress accordingly.
- This distribution will be hosted in a “drive-thru” format. Residents are asked to remain in their cars, so volunteers will not come face-to-face with others.
- This is a very physical volunteer request. 24-packs of water bottles are being distributed which are heavy. If you have physical limitations, please note this and we will place you in traffic control or registration of participants.
If you should have any questions or concerns regarding your volunteer registration, please do not hesitate to email Ashley at aslack@smcaa.com or call me directly at 269-925-9077 ext. 864.
SMCAA is dedicated to empowering diverse people in need and supporting their journey towards economic security. Thank you for helping make our mission possible!
