United Way Signature Events 2025

Whether you're part of a team or by yourself, you can give back all year long with United Way of Southwest Michigan's Signature Events!

January - April:

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)

VITA gets money back into the pockets of working families who need it most! Two types of volunteers are needed: Tax preparers will prepare taxes for low income working families (training provided) and intake specialists will help people sign up at locations, making sure they have all their proper documentation.

JULY:

Rock the Boat

The ROCK THE BOAT Cardboard Boat Races take place in July at the Inn at Harbor Shores in the St. Joseph River channel. This is United Way of Southwest Michigan’s biggest fundraising event of the year! Teams compete to race cardboard boats while also raising funds for United Way for awards like the People’s Choice. This event is attended by over 1,000 people and is by far one of the most fun events to be part of while helping United Way.

August:

School Supply Spectacular

United Way of Southwest Michigan is proud to partner with area businesses and organizations to present School Supply Spectacular in Cass County in August. This annual event provides free backpacks with grade-appropriate school supplies to Cass County students in pre-kindergarten to 12th grade.

November:

 Rake a Difference

Volunteer teams are needed to rake leaves and clean gutters for seniors citizens in your community! These activities can be difficult, if not impossible, for seniors. They can easily fall, strain muscles or simply not be physically able to do the work. But with your help, seniors could be ready for winter

Volunteer registration launches September 1st and closes mid-October.
