Who We Are
Mission: To embody the teachings of Jesus by caring for those in need.
We are a collaboration of churches and non-profits who work together to help people with emergency needs. We serve the Eastern part of Van Buren County mostly but we do help others also at times. We try to help where other agencies are unable to help. 38 volunteers and no paid staff.
What We Do
United Christian Services will provide basic needs- pay utility bills, rent arrears, help with evictions and any other affordable emergency. (repairs, transportation costs) We give away food and clothing. We have a couple of educational classes. Coffee connections on Mondays is a one-stop shop for people needing to meet with agencies who can assist with problems (DHHS, CMH, Friend of the Court for example).
Our sustainability programs include budgeting through one on one mentoring and “Reality Days” events. (We collaborate with Huntingdon Bank to do this). We also have a community garden and although the pandemic meant we had to stop our learning Kitchen classes we hope to restart those in 2024.
