Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra

Mission: To transform all lives through music.
The Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra has been an integral part of the cultural fabric of our community since 1951. We strive to cultivate and inspire a diverse audience through professional musical experiences. Our vision is to be a positive impact within our community by contributing to the arts with a foundation of equity, inclusion and diversity.
Each year, we provide over 25 events for the community through concerts, events and educational programs. We embrace the responsibility to be a dynamic and vibrant part of southwest Michigan by offering innovative programming, an expanded geographic footprint of performance locations, and increased educational opportunities, while balancing artistic growth with financial soundness.
We are proud to enhance existing Southwest Michigan school music programs and provide orchestral opportunities for those students who do not have a school music program. We offer an Educational Concert, which is geared towards 3rd and 4th grade students with the goal of introducing them to the families of instruments in the orchestra and employing valuable social skills. We also run the Lake Michigan Youth Orchestra (LMYO), a music education program designed to supplement private, public, and home- school band and orchestra curriculum by providing a Youth Symphony experience consisting of three ensembles: Concert Strings, Encore Strings, and Youth Symphony.
